There’s a reason why everyone from politicians to economists to your grandparents confidently asserts that small businesses are the lifeblood of the economy. For every $100 spent at a local business, approximately $67 stays in the community. (That’s twice as much as when you shop in big-box stores). Small business storefronts are also more likely to support local artisans, farms, and manufacturers. So, when we heard about all the wonderful new small businesses coming to the heart of Brevard, we were thrilled!
Have you spotted these around town yet? Here are five of the newest businesses we’re excited to welcome to Brevard.
3oak Handcrafted
There’s just something about handcrafted wood products, isn’t there? 3oak Handcrafted is an upstart woodworking company that’s taken over an old, 5,000-square-foot auto body shop on South Broad Street. Their unique retail concept features a highly curated home store, top-of-the-line woodshop, and showroom with ceramics, handcrafted furniture, textiles, wood art, and raw wood products. With a coffee and beer tap on site, you can peruse their fine selection of homegoods and accessories at the measured pace their heirloom products deserve. Inquire about custom projects.

Kilwins Brevard
Landon and Ashley Clark have officially brought the success of their Highlands and Greenville, S.C., chocolate shops to Main Street! Since 1947, Kilwins has provided high-quality chocolates, ice cream, and confections, along with excellent service, to communities across America. These locally-owned franchises are built on the simple premise of creating products from the finest ingredients and providing customers with a great experience. Papa L.E.W.
Like the rest of town, we were very excited at the recent opening of Papa L.E.W. Last year, Brevard native Ursula Wynn and her wife, Christina, started hosting pop-up-style dinners. But with such high demand for their classic American menu—including the thickest burgers and sauciest wings around!—a permanent location was required. Check them out on the same block as Brevard Brewing and D.D. Bullwinkel’s. Papa L.E.W. is named after Ursula’s grandfather, Lindsey Edward Wynn, aka Papa. We’re sure he’d issue you this challenge: Leave room for dessert. The restaurant offers banana pudding or a fruit cobbler egg roll!

PLATT HOME
If this name sounds familiar, it’s because PLATT HOME is the newest offering from PLATT, downtown Brevard’s own architecture, construction, and interior design firm. This brand new 2,500-square-foot showroom features a curated collection of antique accessories, furniture, lighting, pillows, rugs, and more. Each product is inspired by the owners’ love of art, entertaining, food, travel, and design—at once intimate and grand. Find them located next door to 3oak, mentioned above. And keep an eye on their website for an online store, coming soon.

Morning Social (Coming Soon)
This year has more delicious treats in store! Honey and Salt, offering locally and organically sourced, farm-to-table breakfasts and lunches in Flat Rock, is opening a sister restaurant in Brevard’s Lumberyard Art District. More details are to come, but our mouths are already watering for their breakfast-all-day concept that attracts lines of diners out the door. We hear that Morning Social will also feature an in-house bakery offering fresh-daily biscuits, breads, cookies, granolas, and more. Morning Social is scheduled to open in the previous Magpie Meat and Three location midsummer.
