Learn more about OnTrack WNC and how you can help them meet their mission.

Would you love to purchase a home, if only you had the “right” credit score? At Allen Tate/Beverly-Hanks, we understand how overwhelming the home buying process can be. This can be especially true if you’re a first-time buyer or have a spotty financial history. But everyone deserves to Live Abundantly in WNC, regardless of their past finances. That’s why we’re such big fans of today’s nonprofit.

Today, we shine a spotlight on a local organization that offers participants a stepping stone toward their financial goals. We invite you to learn more about OnTrack WNC and how you can help them meet their mission.

What is OnTrack WNC?

OnTrack Financial Education & Counseling (OnTrack WNC) is the region’s trusted nonprofit source for financial education and counseling.

OnTrack WNC is a private, nonprofit, community-supported, United Way agency. Since 1973, they have helped people better manage their money and credit through education programs, individual counseling appointments, and debt management programs. Participants are better able to reach their money and housing goals. In turn, they can better overcome crises, afford basic needs, and make sound financial choices rooted in their values.

The organization is a member of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC), accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA), a HUD-approved counseling agency, and has consistently achieved an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. OnTrack’s service area includes Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Clay, Cherokee, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Swain (Cherokee Reservation), Transylvania, Watauga, and Yancey Counties.

Whether you need help getting out of debt, creating a budget to purchase a home, or planning for retirement, they have a service that will provide financial clarity for your situation.

What education and counseling programs do they offer?

The OnTrack education department offers a variety of group classes led by professionals and designed to increase your financial IQ. If you’ve ever wanted to have someone spell out the basics of budgeting, the mystery of credit scoring, or how to build your savings, then these classes are for you.

Available interactive and on-demand online classes from OnTrack WNC currently include:

  • Assessing Your Insurance Needs.
  • Credit: How to Build and Repair Your Credit Score.
  • Debt Payment During Uncertain Times.
  • Homebuyer Education Online Course.
  • Money Foundations.
  • Money Visioning & Goal Setting.

In addition to regular classes, OnTrack offers individual financial counseling sessions related to budgeting, credit, debt, foreclosure prevention, home buying, home equity, student loans, and more. They also offer services specifically for seniors, including topics on retirement, reverse mortgages, and tax preparation.

The Women’s Financial Empowerment Center provides OnTrack WNC’s full range of financial counseling and education services. But through them, courses have a women-centered approach, responding to women’s unique needs and perspectives.

How can I support OnTrack WNC?

Like all nonprofits, OnTrack relies on individual and corporate supporters in order to provide services at no or little cost to their clients. Help them help others by making a one-time or recurring donation. Donations of $100 per month qualify you as a Stepping Stone Donor. And individuals who make significant undesignated gifts for three or more years are eligible for their Keystone Society.
