The 2024 Paint Color Trends have been announced by the major paint companies and for those of us that are on the edge of our seats waiting to see which vibrant hues will be named, the anticipation is finally over.

This year’s colors are a far cry from the colorful chromas on last year’s list, like Redened Point and Raspberry Blush, but nonetheless, 2024’s picks still indicate a propensity for deep color, rather than the white-washed walls that have dominated homes for the last few years. Ready to pick up a paint brush and change your whole home? Here are the 2024 paint colors of the year.

Benjamin Moore Blue Nova

Tired of blues that just fall flat? Benjamin Moore Blue Nova is a deep, striking color. With an LRV (Light Reflectance Value) of nearly 17, this paint color is pretty dark, and a stark contrast from the ultra light colors homeowners tend to paint their common areas.

Best used in rooms like offices, bedrooms and even on kitchen islands, put this color anywhere you want to make a statement. You’ll need a good bit of natural light in a room to pull this color off, as rooms that are north facing and don’t have too many windows will easily make this color appear almost black.

A complete 180 from last year’s Paint Color of the Year, Raspberry Blush, Blue Nova is a color most everyone can easily incorporate in their homes in large or small doses.

Sherwin Williams Upward

Sticking with blues, Sherwin Williams has named their 2024 Color of the Year, Upward. A much paler blue, compared to Blue Nova, Upward is actually a blue with a strong gray undertone. With an LRV of 57, Upward is not quite what you’d consider a light paint color, but it is considerably brighter than Benjamin Moore’s 2024 paint pick.

As you can see above, Upward will likely be a very popular choice in kitchen cabinetry, as it works really well with marble and cooler-toned quartz cabinets. Picked to work with a variety of decor styles and because it easily lends itself as a background color with the increasingly popular coastal chic design trend, Upward is the cool blue you’ve been dreaming of.

Behr Cracked Pepper

Behr’s color choice for 2024 is a mood all by itself. Cracked Pepper is the Behr 2024 Paint Color of the Year, and if you were looking for drama, you’ve had a stroke of luck because this color brings the heat. Just as the name implies, Cracked Pepper is a dark moody black hue with a blue undertone. Cracked Pepper has an LRV of 8, which makes it very dark, but still not as dark as a pitch black, which typically has an LRV of 2 or 3.

A stark departure from Behr’s 2023 choice, Blank Canvas, Behr sees Cracked Pepper as a way to give homeowners what they want–darker, moodier rooms. To further demonstrate this gravitation toward darker color choices, a recent study found that homebuyers would be willing to pay more for darker-colored interiors. If you’ve been dying to paint some walls in your home black, here’s your sign that it’s time.
