2 Arboretum Road in Asheville

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Biltmore Forest Private Enclave Sells for Record-Breaking Amount

Beverly-Hanks listed these iconic Biltmore Forest properties.

September 13, 2021, Asheville, NC—Beverly-Hanks, REALTORSⓇ represented the sellers for the record-breaking sale of 2 Arboretum Road in Asheville, which closed on September 13, 2021. The property surrounding the house is the last undeveloped residential acreage owned by Biltmore Farms available for purchase within the Town of Biltmore Forest.

“It has been Beverly-Hanks’ privilege to work with the George Cecil family and Biltmore Farms for more than 40 years,” said Neal Hanks, President of Beverly-Hanks. “We’ve handled thousands of transactions and many high-profile sales during our long-term relationship, but it is a genuine honor to have been entrusted to market the Cecil’s family home. Its sale is one of the most significant in Asheville’s history and continues the family’s history of welcoming folks to Western North Carolina.”

“The friendship and working relationship between our two companies dates back to when our respective fathers first entered the real estate business,” states Jack Cecil, President of Biltmore Farms. “This partnership was founded on mutual trust and respect for each other, which continues to this day.”

Clary McCall, residential broker associate from Beverly-Hanks’ Biltmore Park office, represented the sellers, members of the George Cecil family who are descendants of George W. Vanderbilt.

McCall explains that “few properties in Biltmore Forest are as steeped in Asheville’s history, and it was a privilege to use the full extent of my luxury real estate experience to achieve this record-breaking sale. Having the family’s confidence and trust means everything to me. I look forward to sharing those same skills with each of my clients.”

The 45 acres of forested land surrounding 2 Arboretum Road and its four acres have been in the Vanderbilt family since the 1890s when George W. Vanderbilt chose Western North Carolina as the location for his treasured home, Biltmore House. George H. V. Cecil, grandson of George Vanderbilt, and his wife, Nancy O. Cecil, built 2 Arboretum as their family home. They lived in the quiet enclave for more than 35 years. The rock bridges along Arboretum Road were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted.

The home and surrounding property at 2 Arboretum Road closed for $9,500,000, making it the highest ever residential sale in the Asheville area.

Once part of the Biltmore Estate, the Town of Biltmore Forest was officially chartered in 1923 and became a historic preservation district in 1990. The attention to detail and environmental stewardship that were so prominent during the development of the Town by the Cecil family have been preserved by virtue of their steadfast commitment to quality community development. Biltmore Forest has its own police force, water, and public works departments. The Town is bordered by the Biltmore Estate, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the City of Asheville.
