“Home” is not purchased—it’s something you actively build.
A community is successful only if every member is successful, healthy, and safe. After nearly 50 years in Western North Carolina, Allen Tate/Beverly-Hanks understands that local nonprofits serve many purposes, even beyond their mission statements. That’s why we support a variety of nonprofits in our community each year.
This year, we have shared some of our favorite WNC causes through a series of blog posts, including today’s post about United Way. Nonprofits across WNC depend on local support to do local work. This fall, we encourage you to step up and join our culture of community support! Learn more about how to support the programs that ensure these mountains remain a fantastic place to call home.
What is United Way?
At Allen Tate/Beverly-Hanks, we believe that every person in our community should have the opportunity and means to find what feels like home. There is perhaps no better way to accomplish this than by Living United—a culture of advocacy and support engendered by United Way.
United Way is a nonprofit agency working through community-based and community-led solutions to build a caring community where everyone has the opportunity to achieve. There are nearly 1,800 United Way offices in communities across more than 40 countries and territories worldwide. They are focused on strengthening the cornerstones for a good quality of life: education, financial stability, and health.
Why does Allen Tate/Beverly-Hanks Live United?
As an international organization, United Way believes that we all have a stake in what happens to our fellow man, woman, or child. And that work begins close to home.
Each and every child who succeeds in school is a success for everyone. Every woman with access to quality, affordable healthcare has a greater chance to live the life she chooses. Every man empowered with the skills to work a living wage position is a man who adds to the prosperity of his entire community.
In short, the mission of United Way, both globally and locally in Western North Carolina, is to help people and their communities LIVE UNITED.
That is a mission Allen Tate/Beverly-Hanks has stood for since the beginning.
Our tradition of support continues
As Western North Carolina market leaders since 1976, Allen Tate/Beverly-Hanks understands the power and importance of strong communities. That’s why we’re so grateful for all the community resources provided by our local United Way agencies.
We’re also very proud of our agents, many of whom are actively involved on United Way boards and with other community connections. We know that even though our busy agents work to build community year round, they won’t hesitate to come together to support a great cause. Nothing will stop us from Living United every day.
You can Live United, too.
Live United by giving back
Every day, our agents and staff impress us by their involvement in strengthening community efforts through service and financial support. We encourage you to get involved, too.

Support what feels like HOME
At Allen Tate/Beverly-Hanks, we believe that everyone has a right to find what feels like home. In real estate, that generally means finding the right property to live your best life. But we also know that “home” is so much more than four walls and a roof—it’s about how a community really lives.
At the foundation of every successful community are great local nonprofits. Local nonprofits serve many purposes, even beyond their mission statements. They showcase the best of what is available for residents, and they reflect the values that locals hold dear.
What’s more, active, thriving nonprofits indicate active, thriving communities. More active communities are more desirable communities. And desirability equates to enhanced property values. That’s one of the many reasons why we at Allen Tate/Beverly-Hanks support dozens of nonprofits across Western North Carolina each year.
We treasure the communities where we work and play. Hundreds of local organizations work tirelessly to make our region one of the most desirable places to live, and we take our responsibility to support their efforts seriously.
