Every day in the Blue Ridge Mountains is an adventure, especially if you know where to look. Brevard is located within a remarkable enclave for hikes of all levels of difficulty. And each offers its own unique perspective on native flora, fauna, and nature at large. Better still, our prehistoric topography is bursting with waterfalls—at least 250 falls in Transylvania County alone, giving it the moniker “The Land of Waterfalls.” On sunny mountain days, there’s nothing better than a hike to one of the region’s many inspiring waterfalls. But if your date runs into the evening, don’t miss these spots for the best stargazing in Brevard.
Have a finger-licking dinner: $20+
There are amazing BBQ joints all over Western North Carolina, and Brevard is no exception. Smoked all day over hardwoods, mountain ‘cue is tender, juicy, and full of natural flavors. Among our favorite Brevard BBQ spots is Smoke on BBQ. From hot chicken sandwiches to pulled pork tacos, they combine the best of old and new Southern cuisine. But many prefer the rib plates, complete with classic sides and both sweet BBQ and mustard sauces. All their barbecue sauces, marinades, and seasonings are made in house. Don’t be afraid to get a little messy, even if this is a date!
Catch a show: $20+
Want to watch the latest rom-com together to set the mood? Treat your date to a show at the historic Co-Ed Cinema, a local entertainment icon for more than 80 years. The theater became the Co-ed Cinema when Brevard College became a co-educational school in 1934. Now, it’s a local favorite. The Co-Ed shows a selection of popular and newer releases that appeal to the entire community. Plus, your cinema experience is within walking distance to downtown’s terrific restaurants and galleries (see next suggestion). Movies rotate on Friday of each week.
See local art: $FREE
The beautiful natural enclaves around Brevard have long inspired many local artists. If you and your sweetheart enjoy art and a good stroll, why not make it part of your date night? One of Brevard’s more treasured and long-running annual events is the 4th Friday Gallery Walk series. These events typically include more than a dozen local galleries and participating locations, giving you plenty to explore. For date nights on other evenings, create your own art stroll. Visit the many galleries located along Main Street. As you walk through bustling downtown, the city’s self-guided sculpture tour celebrates both local artists and indigenous animals through 20 life-size sculptures formed of bronze, copper, steel, and stone.
