HGTV has done it again, taking a humble home in Kansas City, Missouri and remodeling it into an Urban Oasis ready to be given away to one lucky winner. Taking cues from Scandinavian Modern design influences, interior designer Carmeon Hamilton up-fitted this urban beauty with layers of texture, organic elements and plenty of color. Here are the 8 design trends we observed from this stunner of a home.

Color, color and more color!

White walls have been trending for several years now, but instead of keeping the whole palette neutral like you typically see in Scandinavian Modern designs, designer Carmeon Hamilton opted infuse each space with tons of color. Bold blues, yellows, rust and many jewel tones are thoughtfully weaved throughout the home. Splashes of color can also be seen within the home’s large collection of vivid artwork.

Plenty of space for entertaining

The trend of wanting space to entertain at home has only increased in the last several years, and the Urban Oasis Home has plenty of features conducive to entertaining. From the spacious living room with seating for a crowd, to the expansive kitchen with an oversized island, to the wet bar and large outdoor dining space, entertaining is a breeze in this home.

Wood tones

Natural wood tones have been making quite the resurgence lately, and the Urban Oasis has made use of beautiful wood tones throughout. Wooden beams, cabinetry, wall molding, and floors all work to ground the space in organic materials.

Interestingly enough, while white cabinetry is still the most popular choice when it comes to kitchen cabinets, wooden cabinetry is now the second highest requested material in the kitchen, with 24% of homeowners building or renovating their kitchen now opting for this natural material.

Natural light

Natural light is key in any renovation or new build, and the Urban Oasis is no exception. Large windows throughout bring in natural light, as do the ample amount of skylights throughout the second story.

Wet room

Wet rooms have been trending for a couple years now and the lucky winners of the Urban Oasis will be able to experience this spa-like bathroom in their new home. A wet room is just as it sounds—a space enclosed behind glass for your shower and free-standing tub.

Indoor outdoor entertaining

Outdoor entertaining spaces that double as second living rooms continue to be highly requested. The Urban Oasis features a fire pit with comfortable seating, a dining area, and a separate lounge area outdoors–practically doubling your entertaining space.

Wellness lounge

Forget a flex space with room to exercise; the Urban Oasis takes the spare room sometimes used to store a treadmill and re-envisions what workouts at home can be with a multi-purpose wellness space. The space comes complete with a projector to stream workouts, a dry sauna, a meditation area, and even a tea bar.

Upstairs landing space

In years past, an upstairs bonus space enclosed behind a door was all the rage, now, as open concept living becomes more and more widely accepted, an open loft upstairs is highly desirable. A major trend in new construction too, an upstairs landing space can serve as a secondary lounge area, a teen hangout or a hobby room. In the Urban Oasis, the upstairs landing zone is a designated music room, with room to display instruments, tons of storage for records, a keyboard, and comfortable seating.
