Four Seasons serves individuals and their families, including local veterans, at the community level.

Did you know that there are more than 730,000 veterans living in the state of North Carolina? That’s 9.8% of our state population!

And yet, in exchange for putting their lives on hold, many veterans across the nation receive insufficient care upon their return home. These experiences only magnify the stress associated with their combat experiences. And at the end of life, even latent anxieties and fears can resurface, pushing veterans back into a spiral of painful memories.

No one needs to die in distress, and no family needs to grieve without support, regardless of their ability to pay. Local nonprofits like Four Seasons serve individuals and their families, including local veterans, at the community level. We invite you to learn more about what they do and how you can help them meet their mission.

What is Four Seasons Foundation?

Four Seasons We Honor Veterans Luncheon, Sept. 12, 2019

Founded in Henderson County in 1981, today Four Seasons provides a variety of critical end-of-life services across 11 counties of Western North Carolina. But more and more people are discovering what a great place this is to retire, and Medicare reimbursement rates are decreasing. That means the need for quality end-of-life care is only increasing. In 2016, the Four Season Foundation was established to support the nonprofit’s mission through philanthropic resources.

Four Seasons is the only remaining community based, nonprofit hospice provider in WNC. Individuals play an active role in their own health care decisions. And profits from the program are used to ensure that every community member receives the best care possible. The result is a tight community that provides comfort, dignity, and support to those facing a life-threatening illness or mourning the death of a loved one, regardless of their ability to pay.

How does Four Seasons honor veterans?

We couldn’t agree more with Four Seasons that those who put their lives on hold and made sacrifices to defend our country deserve honor and praise. This is especially true at the end of life.

Four Season’s We Honor Veterans program supports the unique needs of veterans and their families during their end-of-life journeys. Trained staff and respectful community members guide veterans through their life stories, some of which are traumatic, and guide them toward a more peaceful death. In addition to compassionate care, veterans receive an American flag pin, a service branch pin, and a certificate of appreciation to commemorate their service.

Your support of the We Honor Veterans program provides hospice and palliative care for local veterans, trains staff to provide quality care, and helps fund pinning ceremonies for veterans in hospice care.
