Today, we shine a spotlight on a local organization that works hard to address the root causes of domestic violence, advocate for positive social change, and empower individuals when they need help the most. We invite you to learn more about REACH of Haywood County and how you can help them meet their mission.
What is REACH of Haywood County?
REACH of Haywood County works to prevent and help victims recover from domestic violence, sexual abuse, or elder abuse. Their goal is to help everyone in Haywood County live a life free of violence. The nonprofit organization offers guidance, information, and a variety of resources through their shelter and outreach programs.
What services do they offer?
Each year, REACH works with over 700 victims and families, nearly 100 of whom are in need of emergency shelter. Among the services and resources REACH offers are:
- 24-Hour Crisis Helpline.
- Emergency Shelter.
- Legal Advocacy.
- Survivor Support.
- Counseling and Support Group.
- Housing Assistance.
- Community Education.
- Elder Abuse Program.
- Safe Dates Program for High Schoolers.
How can I support REACH of Haywood County?
REACH’s shelter and clients can always use additional support. “There is a great need here in Haywood County for our services,” says Julia Freeman, Executive Director of REACH of Haywood County. “REACH remains the primary organization to deliver those services to the victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and elder abuse.”
To support their mission and efforts, the organization operates a resale thrift shop.
Within REACH Resale Shop sells high-quality women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing and accessories. Shoppers can also find home and kitchen items, furniture, lamps, toys, art, books, and more. Proceeds from Within REACH help provide shelter and services to REACH clients. And as if that’s not enough incentive to shop with them, the store offers Frequent Shopper Cards, which earn customers a $5 discount after every $50 of purchases.
