Real estate firm to host Scarves 4 Warmth workshop

Allen Tate Realtors are well-known for helping people buy and sell homes. This month, some of these agents will dedicate their time to help those who are homeless.

The Allen Tate Realtors Greensboro-Green Valley office will host a Scarves 4 Warmth workshop on February 25, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the office at 717 Green Valley Road, Suite 300.

At the workshop, Allen Tate agents and interested members of the community will craft warm scarves from recycled materials that will be donated to the homeless in Greensboro and surrounding local communities.

Donations of clothing and items made from polar fleece, sweatshirt material and wool are used to make the scarves. Clothing does not need to be in excellent condition, as garments are deconstructed into fabric strips and patches.

Scarves 4 Warmth was founded by Bobby Craddock, a local artist with SoulShine Studios, who once experienced homelessness. Today, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, he leads groups of volunteers in recycling discarded garments to create new, warm scarves.

“I met Bobby at a local craft fair and purchased one of his handmade scarves. I was inspired by his work, and I wanted to share his mission with my Allen Tate colleagues and friends,” said Allen Tate Realtor Kelly Creed, who is coordinating the event.

“The goal is to bring about an awareness of the reality of homelessness in our communities and what we can do to create change.” said Creed.

Members of the community (including children ages 8+) are invited to participate and may register at www.volunteersignup.org/D3THH. No sewing experience is required. A donation of $10 per volunteer or a recyclable article of clothing on the day of the event is requested.

Donations (polar fleece, sweatshirt material or wool garments or fabric) may be dropped off at the Allen Tate Greensboro-Green Valley office from Monday through Friday during normal business hours through February 24.
