Howard Hanna Beverly-Hanks Real Estate sponsors community fundraiser at Appalachian Mountain Brewery in Mills River
The Blue Ridge Humane Society is the latest recipient of Karma Keg, a community fundraiser sponsored by Howard Hanna Beverly-Hanks Real Estate.
The event, held July 16, 2026 at Appalachian Mountain Brewery in Mills River, brought together agents, staff and community members for an evening of connection and giving and raised $2,085.
Founded in 2017, Karma Keg is a Howard Hanna Beverly-Hanks tradition where the company partners with local breweries to support Western North Carolina nonprofits. Attendees make a suggested $10 donation, nominate their favorite local 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and receive a drink ticket for a craft beer or non-alcoholic beverage. At the end of the evening, one nomination is drawn, and that nonprofit receives 100% of the funds raised.
The winning nonprofit was the Blue Ridge Humane Society, whose mission is to strengthen the bond between people and their pets by removing barriers to care and providing compassionate, accessible support for animals and the families who love them. The organization was nominated by Howard Hanna Beverly-Hanks real estate agent Erica Hodges.
“The event continues Howard Hanna Beverly-Hanks’ commitment to giving back to the communities it serves,” said Stephanie Buss, marketing and community engagement specialist with Howard Hanna Beverly-Hanks. “Since its inception, Karma Keg has become a fun and meaningful way to support the nonprofits that make Western North Carolina a better place to live.”
To date, Karma Keg has raised more than $20,000 for local non-profits in Western North Carolina, combining good beer, good company and a good cause. In June, the Summer Karma Keg at Appalachian Mountain Brewery in Boone raised $3,200, with proceeds split between the Caramella family and Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue.
Past Karma Keg recipients have included Asheville Community Theatre, Big Brothers Big Sisters of WNC, Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, Broyhill Children’s Home, Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue, Homeward Bound WNC, La Esperanza, Sarge’s Animal Rescue, Smart Start Partnership for Children, Sunrise Community for Recovery and Wellness, Toys for Tots and WNC Down Syndrome Alliance.
The next Karma Keg event will be held November 19, 2026 from 6-8 pm at 185 King Street in Brevard.
