We don’t know about you, but we can’t stop obsessing over the 2020 HGTV Dream Home. Located in Hilton Head, South Carolina, the home has it all–from the shiplap ceilings, to amazing outdoor entertaining spaces and beautiful use of herringbone tile, we’d be more than happy to call this beautiful place home.
Bummed you didn’t win? Don’t be– just because you didn’t win the coastal beauty doesn’t mean you can’t weave the design themes into your next home project. Decorate in style when you use any (or all!) of the design trends found in this year’s Dream Home.

Blue hues
We knew blue paint colors were going to be having a moment this year, thanks to Sherwin Williams naming their true blue hue, Classic Blue, the 2020 Pantone Color of the year.
Most people think of blue when they think of costal decor palettes, but beyond just a color that works well at the beach, blue is actually quite versatile.
For more of a bold statement, try Sherwin Williams Naval, or meet in the middle with a New York State of Mind by Benjamin Moore. If you’re in search of more of a green-blue, try Palladian Blue or Mill Springs Blue, both by Benjamin Moore.
If you’re not totally sold on painting your walls blue, try adding blue pops of color with decorative items or throw pillows and blankets.

Cohesive color scheme
Today’s homes are being designed with an open concept, as that seems to be at the top of every buyers wishlist these days. But while open concepts are nice for entertaining guests, many find that they’re hard to decorate without the help of a professional. Get around this design challenge by using a cohesive color scheme, much like the one in the Dream Home.
Tying rooms together can be done by using variations of a color throughout your home. As you can see in the video below, the blue tile in the kitchen is tied in with a blue couch in the living room, with the blue chairs in the dining room, and perfectly complemented with an egg shell blue shiplap ceiling. Remember to use different shades of your main color for a designer look.
Herringbone patterned tile
While classic subway tile will never go out of style, sometimes it’s fun to mix it up and use subway tile in a herringbone pattern. Add texture to any space when you incorporate herringbone tile in your kitchen backsplash, in your shower or even in your floors.

Using driftwood
We’ve known for a while that all white everything would eventually fade away, and this year’s Dream Home shows a stark departure from white with its use of driftwood cabinets and navy blue tile. Driftwood accents and furniture are carried throughout the home to help with cohesion. The home’s use of light and darker driftwood furniture and accents helps to keep things visually interesting and adds uniqueness to the space.
Brass finishes
Remember brass? Well, it’s back. But not the shiny brass we remember from the 90s–today’s brass has more of a muted matte finish, and is just plain beautiful. The Dream Home’s use of matte brass fixtures in bathrooms adds instant dramatic flair that we just love.
