The Thanksgiving dishes are cleared, washed and put away, and the fridge is now the only thing that’s stuffed with leftovers. Looking for some fresh ideas on serving up something new and different with all the turkey and side dishes? Here are some recipes we think look yummy—and good enough for any meal of the day! Breakfast Turkey is not just for dinner anymore! Think creatively and turn that turkey into an early bird! Consider putting fresh and leftover vegetables and beaten eggs with chopped turkey to make a breakfast frittata. It’s a great way to disguise yesterday’s dinner. It’s the most wonderful time of the year

The holidays are one of my favorite times of year. I get to spend extra time with friends and family, my home feels a little cozier with all of the decorations, and my daily drive to work is filled with holiday music that brings a smile to my face. During this special time of year, I have the joy of hosting my family. I love Rockin’ around the Christmas Tree with them, and I can spare myself a Blue Christmas knowing that I have a homeowners insurance policy that would cover me should Grandma get run over by a reindeer or someone gets decked while decking the halls. A homeowners insurance policy can include personal liability coverage, usually up to $500,000 or...

Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. For whatever reason, to me, it seems like the most reflective time – a time with less stress. At Thanksgiving, I am so thankful for our faith, family and friends – the life buoys we are all given to share life’s peaks and valleys. We survived the longest housing recession in history (which took the entire economy with it). While this was unsettling, we gained a much needed correction – and the internal peace that came from it.Looking back, I am so very thankful that:Both Republicans and Democrats recognize that 62-64 percent of our population can and should own a home and that anything higher than that is unrealistic.Housing can only absorb 43 percent of your...

Home for sale – during the holidays

“I am going to list my home after the first of the year.” This is what we hear quite often at this time of year. I understand because this season brings on many pushes and pulls left to its own. It’s just easier to put things off until “after the holidays.” Contrary to popular opinion, this is a perfect time to be “best of show." Think about it; your competition out there is already at a 5-year low. The builders can’t get enough spec houses in the ground due to labor shortages; and your home decorated for the holidays has never been staged any better. It bubbles with warmth, character and speaks of friends and family and cherished memories. Those are paramount...

Santa Claus Has Arrived at the North Carolina Transportation Museum

Did you know Santa Claus has arrived at the North Carolina Transportation Museum?

When my children were both much younger, I looked for ways for them to enjoy Santa Claus in a different environment than that of the mall. I found that the North Carolina Transportation Museum does something a little different. Santa and his elves ride the train with kids and their parents. He passes out candy and listens to each child’s wish list while everyone takes a short trip on the train.

My son was in love with trains from the time he was two years old till he was about eight so he absolutely loved this annual event!

Does The Holiday Spirit Last All Year?

During the holiday season, we often hear about the spirit of helping others. It warms my heart to hear about agents in our company who have compassion and care for the less-fortunate. This time of year I reflect on our agents who have given to the community, asked for nothing in return, and touched the lives of people in need.

Recently, I heard a story of a home that burned down and, as a result, the family was displaced. One of our Winston-Salem agents immediately asked another agent how he could contact the family to help.  He was the first person to reach out and extend a hand.

Time for the Holidays: Are You Insured?

It’s Party Time!  Am I covered?

The holiday season is usually filled with plenty of events to fill up your calendar and sometimes, you are the host or hostess!

It may sound silly but before you have a party or gathering at your home, check with your agent to be sure that you have the proper coverage on your insurance policy.

A homeowners insurance policy can include personal liability coverage, and most offer up to $500,000 or $1,000,000 in coverage.  It’s important that you make sure that this coverage is in place prior to having a party or holiday gathering at your home. In case something happens or someone gets hurt while they are there, it’s better to be safe than sorry!
