American Museum of the House Cat
The vibrant history surrounding Sylva is reflected in the many museums available to help you connect with the past. The quirkiest of these options is perhaps the American Museum of the House Cat. This recently expanded site features 5,000+ feline artifacts and curiosities, including a statue of the Egyptian cat goddess Bastet from 600 B.C. According to their website, “There is not another private collection of this magnitude and value in America.” And best of all, proceeds from the museum support discounted spay/neuter services to the local community.

Downtown Sylva Historic District

The biggest attraction in Sylva, NC is arguably the town itself. Sylva’s historic district is not to be missed! Encompassing more than 40 buildings dated between 1900–1964, the district represents notable examples of Classical Revival, Italianate, Modern Movement, Queen Anne, and American Craftsman architecture. Today, roughly a century later, the area still serves as the central business district of the town. Jackson County Ale Trail
The Appalachians may be infamous for their ‘shine. But in recent years, Sylva’s palate has veered toward more trendy brews. TripAdvisor calls the Jackson County Ale Trail “One of the Top 10 American Brewery Tours,” and Sylva’s booming brewing scene is where it all begins. Pinnacle Park
Surrounded by the Great Smoky Mountains, there are myriad outdoor adventures awaiting within steps of Sylva! If you’re looking for a challenging way to stay active in Sylva, hike to the top of The Pinnacle (elevation 5,008 feet). The 1,400-acre park surrounding the peak is owned by the Town of Sylva and operated by the Pinnacle Park Foundation. The park’s West Fork Trail climbs steadily uphill for 3.4 miles along an old logging road, taking you 3,000 feet in elevation. At the summit, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the Jackson County valley.
