Donations to benefit Iredell-Statesville students
When the weather turns cool, most of us reach in the closet for the warmth of a coat or jacket. But for nearly 15 percent of Americans living in poverty, a warm winter coat is “an extra” they cannot afford.
Allen Tate Realtors Statesville is hosting a coat drive to help share the warmth with needy K-12 students in Iredell-Statesville schools.
The coat drive will run from November 18 through December 2, and new and gently used coats of all sizes (child and adult) are needed. Additionally, donations of hats, gloves, mittens and scarves will also be accepted.
“Even a 2 degree drop in body temperature results in reduced heart rate, loss of coordination and confusion. Children who are cold find it difficult to learn,” said Hilary Broadway, branch leader, Allen Tate Realtors Statesville and Mooresville/Lake Norman.
“One of Allen Tate company-wide giving initiatives is public education. We just raised more than $198,000 for that cause. Our coat drive is just another small way we can make sure our local kids have every possible opportunity to do their best,” said Broadway.
Donations may be dropped off Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Allen Tate Realtors Statesville office at 117 North Center Street, Suite B. Those wishing to donate may also contact their Allen Tate Realtor to schedule a pick-up.
