The 2022 HGTV Dream Home Sweepstakes is here again, and this time the lucky winner will receive a beautiful chalet in the mountains of Warren, Vermont.

Patrick Flynn, the interior designer behind the well-dressed home, has outdone himself once again as he effortlessly blends the home’s surrounding external beauty softly into the overall design aesthetic–giving the lucky winner a real chance to truly unwind and recharge.

If you love looking through home photos for inspiration to use as you create a space you love in your home, here are 4 trends we think you should pay close attention to.

Matte black finishes

If you thought matte black finishes were going away as the farmhouse trend starts to decline, you thought wrong. Used the right way, matte black finishes can be timeless and add dramatic flair to your home.

If this is something you’re considering, make sure your home can support the bold trend. You’ll need to repeat the black in at least three elements in a room to pull these off.

Perhaps you want to put matte black handles in your kitchen–you need two other elements that have black finishes to pull these off. Ideally, you’ll have one large item, one medium, and one small to pull off a color seamlessly in a room.

In the dream home, you can see how Flynn pairs black handles with the black countertops (your large item) and the black pendant lights (your medium item).

The color green

In case you missed it, everyone’s going green this year. Taking notes from the beautiful gray green hue, Evergreen Fog, which was named Sherwin Williams’ 2022 Color of the Year, the kitchen and some living spaces were painted in a rich green hue.

Multipurpose rooms

Multipurpose rooms were a huge trend that emerged over the last couple of years as more and more homeowners look for their homes to go the extra mile.

This trend can be observed in the newest Dream Home in the upstairs loft, which doubles as an additional place for guests by way of a Murphy bed, an upstairs guest room which also serves as a hangout space by creatively using a daybed, among other well-utilized spaces.

Huge emphasis on outdoor entertaining space

The Dream Home is an entertainer’s paradise, with large open concept living and ample outdoor entertaining space. A sprawling patio with place for guests to dine, get warm by the fire, take a dip in the pool or unwind after a long day.

Heavily focusing on outdoor living space is a trend new construction and remodeling experts have noticed for a while and expect to only increase.
