Taking trends gleaned from both the National Kitchen and Bath Association 2024 trends report and a recent HOUZZ report where industry professionals and homeowners alike were interviewed, these are the bathroom trends you can expect to see gracing the covers of magazines and on your IG and Pinterest feed in the coming year. If you’re getting ready to undergo a bathroom remodel, you can’t miss these growing bathroom trends.

Wood

Natural wood has been slowly creeping up as the most popular source for vanities and kitchen cabinets for years. In 2024, unpainted wood is poised to overtake the classic white vanity, as a third of homeowners (33%) prefer a wood vanity, followed by white (29%) and then gray (13%).

Green is in

According to the National Kitchen and Bath Association, 35% of trade professionals recently surveyed prefer a bathroom with green as the dominant color, whereas 31% of respondents chose white, and 26% chose white.

Water closets

A whopping 71% of trade professionals say a water closet or a separate room for the toilet, with or without a door, is highly desirable.

Larger footprint

In 2024, designers are predicting that the trend of larger primary bathrooms will only continue. While 75% of those renovating their ensuites keep the same square footage, 25% of homeowners are opting to go bigger. In most cases, the motive for a larger footprint is largely driven by the desire for a larger shower or increased storage.

Smart toilets

If a toilet that cleans itself is something you’ve been wanting, your wish may not be that far out of reach. Designers are predicting that in a few years, the most requested water closet feature will be a smart toilet, complete with automatic lids, warming seats, and self-cleaning functions.

Backlit mirrors

A staggering 56% of respondents from the NKAB survey indicated backlit mirrors will be the norm in the coming years.

Curbless showers

The trend with curbless showers is two-fold, as the design is both great for aging in place and aesthetically pleasing. Seventy percent of designers surveyed by NKAB said curbless showers were their preference and that their clients prefer the seamless look with frameless glass.

Large format tile

Grout lines be gone (well, almost)! Homeowners are sick and tired of scrubbing grout lines and as a result, they are opting for large-scale tile with significantly fewer grout lines than smaller-format tile.

Black fixtures

The color black has majorly been trending ever since the farmhouse movement erupted several years ago. Black fixtures are the most popular choice of color when it comes to bathroom plumbing fixtures, with 51% of designers and homeowners choosing them. Pewter and nickel are also popular, with 45% of survey respondents choosing this finish for bathroom plumbing fixtures.

Wallpaper

It’s hard to ignore how much wallpaper has come back in vogue ever since its sudden exile years ago, but if the survey results from NKAB are any indication of what’s trending, wallpaper is back, and better than ever! Fifty percent of all respondents indicated the best way to add color and personality to a bathroom is through wallpaper, followed by paint, which was chosen by 36% of survey takers as the preferred way to add color to a bathroom.

How much will a bathroom remodel cost in 2024?

According to the latest Cost vs. Value report, an upscale bathroom remodel can cost homeowners as much as $77,261. A bath remodel with a more modest budget can cost upwards of $40,050.
