Real Estate resolutions for 2017

What positive changes do you plan to make in 2017? If you are looking to lose weight, stop smoking or eat healthier, we wish you well, but we probably can’t help you. But here are a few “real estate resolutions” to consider that can save you time, money, frustration or all of the above in the New Year: I will only buy or sell a home with the assistance of a professional Realtor (ideally, an Allen Tate Realtor®). Unless you have previous experience in real estate (and even if you do), going the For Sale by Owner (FSBO) route is just a bad idea. Real estate can be complicated and even a simple mistake can be costly. You need a professional. ...

#FBF Get some fresh air

In our area, many bright winter days call us outside, into the crisp air and under Carolina blue skies to get a breath of fresh air. Luckily, our area has an extensive network of greenways to make it fun and easy. The Swamp Rabbit Trail in Upstate South Carolina goes roughly from Greenville Tech to Furman University. It is popular with walkers, runners and bicyclists and features routes through Cleveland Park and the opportunity to detour to Swamp Rabbit Brewery in Traveler’s Rest. The Rails to Trails Conservancy is active in the NC Triangle, creating and maintaining greenways and trails including the 22-mile American Tobacco Trail. Escapes into the great outdoors in the NC Triad area are accessed via 11 miles of Piedmont...

Presidential Priorities

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. – Winston Churchill The life of a Realtor® is busy – meeting with buyers and sellers, coordinating appraisals and inspections, attending closings, staying in touch with past clients, prospecting new business and keeping current on technology and other real estate topics. Whew. And while a real estate career offers flexibility, healthy market conditions often mean prioritizing business obligations with personal relationships and responsibilities. So who has time to volunteer? At Allen Tate, dozens of agents each year dedicate time, energy and knowledge to serve the real estate industry through their participation on boards, committees and as part of special activities and events. A few take service to the...

Tips for hosting the perfect holiday gathering

For those of us whose lineage includes Martha Stewart, Rachael Ray, Giada De Laurentiis, and the like, the opportunity to entertain a group of friends or family is likely a welcomed request; while for others, the thought of hosting a dinner party is akin to getting a root canal--in other words, it’s not so pretty. Whether you’re a hostess with the mostess or a hot mess, here are some tips for a successful party. Ambiance Create a relaxing atmosphere by building a playlist of your favorite tunes prior to guests arriving. Make sure the music is loud enough to be appreciated but no so loud that your guests have to strain their ears during a conversation. Looking for a way to kick...

#FBF Keeping your home warm this winter

During the winter months when the temperatures dip below freezing it can feel like you’re playing a never-ending game of catch up to try and keep your home warm. So rather than watch the Benjamins fly out the doors, windows, nooks and crannies of your home, follow the advice below. Eliminate drafts Locating and sealing energy-draining drafts in your home can save you between 10 and 20 percent on your energy bill, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. And while most people assume windows and doors are the biggest draft offenders, experts warn that other elements like recessed lights, wiring holes, electrical boxes, plumbing vents and support elements in your basement and attic can be equally concerning. Pick a windy day and carefully...

#FBF Home for Christmas

Is a brand new home on your Christmas list? Then I’ll let you in on a little secret. Home builders are no different than your local retailer. This time of year, builders need to sell off their inventory in order to make way for new product for next year. Just as a retailer’s earnings are affected by how many times per year they turn their inventory, builders – especially the publicly traded ones – work under the same premise. Don’t expect to see “door busters” – or BOGO (buy one get one free) specials when it comes to new construction. But I can assure you that if you are serious about buying a new home before year-end, there will be some great...
