3 ways to have some fun in the October sun

The days are crisp and sunny, so grab the fam and get out and enjoy some of the fun the Carolinas have to offer. Here are 3 ways you can do just that:

1. Mazes, pumpkins and apples

Stop by the Farmer Ganyard Upchurch Farm in Cary, NC for hayrides, corn and hay mazes, a barn market and a pumpkin patch.

In Taylors, SC, take the kiddos to a non-scary Enchanted Forest, an Upstate favorite.

Ken’s Korny Corn Maze  near Garner, NC is a ten-acre fall playground that is home to the state’s first and longest-running corn maze. There is also a small maze for kids, pumpkin picking, hayrides and family games such as miniature golf and gourd checkers.

The whole of Rural Hill’s 265 acres in Huntersville, NC is open this October during maze hours. Take a hayride around the farm, play corn-hole, explore the historic site, play in the giant 6-acre maze and mini-mazes, have a picnic, hike, pick a pumpkin and more.

3. Fall exhibits

At the NC Zoo in Asheboro, Howl-o-ween, Batology and Boo at the Zoo are just a few of the special events planned for October.

During October, Carowinds, between Charlotte and Fort Mill, becomes Scarowinds. Wander through eerie exhibits and watch a scary movie, then ride the rides through the dark of night.

Beginning Oct. 22 at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, The Secret World Inside You exhibition begins. Get an introduction to the community of creatures that your immune system, digestive system and brain rely on every day.

Oct. 21-22, lovers of everything creative can browse through Art on the Trail in Traveler’s Rest, SC.
