In 1994, Congress designated the Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday as a national day of service. Taking place each year on the third Monday in January, the MLK Day of Service is the only federal holiday observed as a “day on, not a day off,” according to MLK.gov.
For the past 56 years, the Allen Tate Companies have placed giving back to our communities at the forefront of our mission and vision. Our Realtors® and employees have, through the years, generously supported annual campaigns to benefit, United Way, arts and culture, public education and other organizations. One way we do that is through Tate Cares, our charitable giving program.
Our focus on this day of giving back, as well what we strive for every day of the year, is to be a good citizen in the communities we serve by supporting programs that enhance quality of life and improve the lives of our employees and neighbors.
The MLK Day of Service is meant to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers and create solutions to social problems, moving us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a beloved community.
On this year’s observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Giving, I’m very proud of our agents and employees, who have offered their time, effort and resources to activities and endeavors held in their communities in honor of Dr. King and for what they do throughout the entire year.
We are proud to call the Carolinas home. For this day of service, United Way of the Greater Triangle area brings volunteer opportunities to local counties with the purpose of transforming Dr. King’s life and teachings into community service that helps empower and strengthen towns and cities.
In Charlotte, citizens have the choice of several events to honor the lasting legacy of Dr. King, including an MLK Day Parade, Prayer Breakfast, The MLK National Day of Celebration, which includes scholarship presentations to the winners of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools MLK writing contest, and presentation of the prestigious Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Medallion Award.
The Triad area is also celebrating with these events.
And Upstate celebrates MLK Dream Weekend, which includes events on MLK Day.
We thank you for supporting Allen Tate’s mission for community service, and encourage you to give back to your own community in whatever way possible.
