Just about every K-12 school in the Carolinas has a large rock in the school yard. I’m talking about the enormous painted boulder that serves as a banner, billboard, birthday card and display of every form of school spirit.
The rocks may have originated because of our jagged Southern topography, but if you think about it, the school spirit rock is one of the first forms of social media. Always original, constantly changing and worth checking often, just to make sure you don’t miss something newsworthy.
This year, Allen Tate Company found a really cool way to celebrate the school rock and other things important to us: education, arts and culture, and our “home team” partner, the Carolina Panthers.
The 5th Annual Spirit Rock Contest, sponsored by the Carolina Panthers and Allen Tate, invites North and South Carolina schools to show their Panthers pride and artistic talents at the same time.
To enter, schools should create a Panthers-themed design on their school rock and submit photos by December 6, 2013. The contest is open to all public and private elementary, middle and high schools in North and South Carolina. Ten winning schools, selected by a community panel of judges, will receive grants to support school art projects, ranging from $400 to $1,000 for the top rock.
School art teachers or administrators should submit two unique photos of their school rock featuring a Panthers design. Photos should be a minimum file size of 1 MB per image and should be emailed to Brad.Wornick@Panthers.NFL.com no later than December 6. For additional information, call 704-358-7807.
Top finishers will also be featured on a slide show on www.panthers.com and in an upcoming issue of the Panthers fan magazine, Roar.
We are thrilled to be the official sponsor of this event and provide arts grants to deserving students throughout the Carolinas. We’re proud to say YOU ROCK!
