Is A House the Right Choice?

11 Oct

The Homebuying Adventure process has been part eye-opening, part stressful and part awesome. The biggest eye-opener was of course my meeting with Mollie Bergstrom from Mortgage (I’m still working diligently on building up my credit) but the day we spent looking at houses is right up there as well.

It’s hard to go into an experience like this without expectations, ideas and prerequisites in mind. House hunting is a lot like going on a series of blind dates. First, you tell someone (your trusty Realtor® in this case) what you are looking for, your likes, your dislikes and everything in between. He or she goes out and scours the home inventory in hopes of finding you that “match made in heaven.” Then, it’s time for you to brace yourself as you put your trust in the hands of fate and venture out to “meet” your prospects. Agents Take on Social Media at RE BarCamp

18 Jun
Last Friday I attended my first Real Estate BarCamp. For those who may not be familiar with the term “Bar Camp” let me tell you that if you’re thinking tents and tree’s or lecture halls and motivational speeches, you’re heading in the wrong direction…on both accounts.

So what is a BarCamp? Put simply, it is a gathering of people who all have a strong desire to share and learn. What makes a BarCamp unique is that it is also defined as an “unconference.” If you are sitting there thinking to yourself “I have no idea what an unconference is”, don’t worry, you are not alone. If you aren’t tuned into social media or web-based technologies then you are not likely to come across the term “unconference.” When a meeting is designed as a series of open participatory workshops whose content is pitched and provided by participants then that meeting becomes an “unconference” (for more details check out this great blog from Jeremy Blanton). Taste of Charlotte Starts Today!

11 Jun

We all love to eat…and there’s no better time to try new foods and restaurants in Charlotte than during the “Taste of Charlotte” festival, June 11-13. Whether you favor BBQ, Indian cuisine, fine wines, or gourmet pizza, it’s all found along Tryon Street in Uptown Charlotte this weekend. Best of all, admission is free!

Food, drinks, dancing and music are part of the festival, and it’s not to be missed. Invite your friends who are new to Charlotte to attend…maybe offer them a few “Festival Coins” so you can treat them to some of the delicious food. The event is very “kid-friendly” with many games and activities just for the youngsters. Continue reading

Carolinas’ Finest Continues to Grow!

24 May

Winston-Salem OfficeWhat better way to start the summer than by celebrating the opening of two new offices! Our first opening this month was the Chapel Hill/Durham office, which opened on May 5th. The new 3,399 square-foot facility features multiple conference rooms, a dedicated workroom, landing pads, work stations, and the latest wireless network technology – all designed to efficiently serve more than 30 real estate agents. For those that live in Orange, Durham and Chatham counties, be sure to stop by and check out our new space! The modern design and functionality will allow Realtors to work most efficiently with our customers in these communities.

Our second opening of the month was the Winston-Salem office which is located in the heart of downtown. As our presence continues to grow in the Triad, we wanted to create an office that would provide Allen Tate Company with the opportunity to become a bigger part of the Winston-Salem and Forsyth County communities. The new space offers high visibility and convenience for both Realtors and clients and the office design will give Realtors the opportunity to work virtually.

Paging Dr. Tate!

24 May

Mr. TateDuring the recent commencement ceremonies held at Queens University in Charlotte, NC, our founder and chairman, Mr. Allen Tate, was honored with a Doctor of Humane Letters degree. Mr. Tate is the epitome of a Carolina man and the honorary degree reflects his five decades of business leadership and civic engagement across the region.

When he began entertaining the thought of career in real estate, Mr. Tate knew that he wanted to do more for people than simply selling their homes; he wanted to help them. That desire and drive led him to establish the civic-minded Allen Tate Company a few years after graduating from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.

During his incredibly successful career in the Carolinas, Mr. Tate has or is currently serving on the boards of the University of North Carolina – Charlotte Foundation, the Central Piedmont Community College Foundation, and the Piedmont Public Policy Institute, among many more.  He has also served as chairman of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, the American Cancer Society, and the American Heart Association’s Heart Ball, among others.
